- 0.08 (80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood)
- 0.05 (50 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood)
- 0.03 (30 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood)

Correct answer: Zero — M1 holders must have no alcohol in their system
Ontario's zero-tolerance policy applies to all novice drivers and riders, including M1 holders. Any detectable amount of alcohol will result in an immediate roadside suspension.
Question 2: During which hours are M1 motorcycle licence holders prohibited from riding?
- Between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
- Between midnight and 5:00 a.m. (Correct answer)
- Between sunset and sunrise
Correct answer: Between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
M1 holders are not permitted to ride between midnight and 5:00 a.m. This restriction is designed to limit exposure to higher-risk night-time riding conditions until more experience is gained.
Question 3: Are M1 motorcycle licence holders permitted to carry a passenger?
- Yes, but only one passenger who holds a full M licence
- Yes, provided the motorcycle has a proper passenger seat and footrests
- No, M1 holders are not permitted to carry any passengers (Correct answer)
- Yes, but only during daylight hours
Correct answer: No, M1 holders are not permitted to carry any passengers
M1 holders are prohibited from carrying passengers at any time. Carrying a passenger significantly increases the skill demands on the rider, making it unsafe for beginners.
Question 4: What type of helmet must a motorcycle rider wear in Ontario?
- Any bicycle helmet that covers the top of the head
- A helmet that meets approved safety standards and fits properly (Correct answer)
- A full-face helmet only — open-face helmets are not permitted
- A helmet is recommended but not legally required for riders over 18
Correct answer: A helmet that meets approved safety standards and fits properly
Ontario law requires every motorcycle rider and passenger to wear a helmet that meets approved safety standards and is properly fitted and fastened. The specific style (full-face, open-face) is not mandated as long as the standard is met.
Question 5: In addition to a helmet, what eye protection rule applies to motorcycle riders in Ontario?
- Sunglasses of any type are sufficient eye protection
- Approved eye protection such as goggles or a face shield is required unless the motorcycle has a windshield (Correct answer)
- Eye protection is optional and left to the rider's discretion
- Only riders travelling above 80 km/h are required to use eye protection
Correct answer: Approved eye protection such as goggles or a face shield is required unless the motorcycle has a windshield
Riders must use approved goggles or a face shield to protect their eyes unless the motorcycle is equipped with a windshield. Ordinary sunglasses do not qualify as approved eye protection under the Highway Traffic Act.
Question 6: What must be installed on both sides of a motorcycle's handlebars?
- Turn signal indicators
- Rearview mirrors (Correct answer)
- Hand grips with safety padding
- Reflective tape for visibility
Correct answer: Rearview mirrors
Ontario law requires a rearview mirror on each side of the handlebars so the rider has a clear view of traffic to the rear on both sides of the motorcycle. A single mirror does not provide adequate rear visibility.
