Question 1: Which circulatory organ is said to be in charge of pumping deoxygenated blood centripetally against gravity to the heart through valves?
- Veins (Correct answer)
- Interstitial fluid
- Lymph
- Arteries
Correct answer: Veins
Because arteries are the structure in charge of transporting blood away from the heart, the response is erroneous. The term "interstitial fluid" is erroneous because it refers to the fluid between tissues and cells, which does not move at all. White blood cells and immune cells make up lymph, which is false. It is not a device that transports blood.
Question 2: Which response identifies the three components of the small intestine correctly?
- Ileum, duodenum, cecum
- Ileum, duodenum, jejunum (Correct answer)
- Ilium, Ischium, pubis
- Ileum, Ischium, cecum
Correct answer: Ileum, duodenum, jejunum
Ilium, Ischium, and pubis are wrong as the pelvic bones are what they refer to. Cecum, ischium, and ileum are wrong since the cecum is a component of the large intestine and the ischium is a component of the pelvis. Cecum belongs to the big intestine, hence the terms ileum, duodenum, and cecum are wrong.
Question 3: Amino acids are transformed into _____ by the adrenal medulla.
- Oxytocin and vasopressin.
- T3 and T4.
- Epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. (Correct answer)
- Aldosterone and testosterone.
Correct answer: Epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
T3 and T4 are inaccurate since the thyroid gland produces them. Aldosterone and testosterone are inaccurate since testosterone is made in the gonads and adrenal cortex, respectively. Since the pituitary gland is where these hormones are produced, oxytocin and vasopressin are inaccurate.
Question 4: The epidermis's _____ layer is its topmost layer.
- Dermis.
- Stratum granulosum.
- Stratum lucidum.
- Stratum corneum. (Correct answer)
Correct answer: Stratum corneum.
The stratum lucidum is erroneous since only the thick skin of the fingers and the bottoms of the feet contain this layer. Dermis is the erroneous term because it refers to the layer of skin that contains elastic and collagen fibers. Due to the fact that this is the intermediate layer of the epidermis, stratum granulosum is erroneous.
Question 5: The answer(s) that are NOT related to the lymphatic system are: ____.
- Pituitary gland. (Correct answer)
- Thymus gland.
- Spleen.
- Lymph nodes.
Correct answer: Pituitary gland.
Because the spleen is the body's biggest lymph tissue and is in charge of phagocytosis, the term "spleen" is erroneous. Lymph nodes are erroneous since they are a component of the lymphatic system and store lymph in various locations all over the body. The thymus gland is erroneous since it belongs to the lymphatic system and is the location where T lymphocytes develop.
Question 6: The _______ is the name for a muscle's stationary end.
- Origin. (Correct answer)
- Antagonist.
- Protagonist.
- Insertion.
Correct answer: Origin.
Insertion is erroneous because it refers to a muscle's moving end. It is inappropriate to use the word antagonist because an antagonist is a muscle that works in opposition to another muscle. Because the antagonist is a muscle that executes a similar action to another muscle, the term "protagonist" is erroneous.
Question 7: Which of the following best sums up how smooth muscles function?
- Nonstriated and voluntary
- Nonstriated and involuntary (Correct answer)
- Striated and voluntary
- Striated and involuntary
Correct answer: Nonstriated and involuntary
Striated and voluntary both refer to skeletal muscle, which is erroneous. Striated and involuntary are wrong since they don't apply to any of the body's muscle fibers. Nonstriated and voluntary are inaccurate terms because they do not apply to any of the body's muscle fibers.
