Question 1: What does the word "perfect" mean in a Perfect Manhattan?
- 1/2 and 1/2 sweet and dry vermouth (Correct answer)
- Sweet vermouth
- Dry vermouth
- Extra vodka
Correct answer: 1/2 and 1/2 sweet and dry vermouth
In cocktail terminology, the word "perfect" when applied to drinks like a Manhattan indicates that both sweet and dry vermouth are used in equal proportions. A standard Manhattan typically uses only sweet vermouth, so a "Perfect Manhattan" specifically calls for a balanced blend of both types to achieve a more complex flavor profile.
Question 2: What is in a Stinger?
- Scotch, soda
- Brandy, clear creme de menthe (Correct answer)
- Gin, clear creme de menthe
- Brandy, green creme de menthe
Correct answer: Brandy, clear creme de menthe
A Stinger is a classic cocktail primarily made with two main ingredients: brandy (often cognac) and clear creme de menthe. - Rocks (Correct answer)
- Wine
Correct answer: Rocks
The French Kiss cocktail is typically served in a rocks glass, also known as an Old Fashioned glass. This short, wide glass is commonly used for drinks served over ice, allowing for a generous amount of ice and comfortable sipping. Its design is ideal for cocktails meant to be enjoyed slowly.
Question 4: The word "white" in a cocktail mean to add what?
- Milk
- Light rum (Correct answer)
- Cream
- Vodka
Correct answer: Light rum
In cocktail recipes, the term "white" often refers to light rum, also known as silver or clear rum. This distinguishes it from dark or gold rums and indicates that a lighter-bodied, often unaged, rum should be used. Light rum typically has a less pronounced flavor profile that blends well in many cocktails without overpowering other ingredients.
