- 1 week
- 30-60 days (Correct answer)
- 6 months
- The day before expiration
Correct answer: 30-60 days
Arizona notaries should begin the renewal process 30-60 days before their commission expires to allow adequate processing time and avoid any gap in their authority to notarize.
Question 2: What happens if an Arizona notary's commission expires before they complete the renewal?
- They have a 30-day grace period
- They must immediately stop performing notarial acts (Correct answer)
- They can continue if the renewal application was submitted
- Their previous notarizations become invalid
Correct answer: They must immediately stop performing notarial acts
Once a commission expires, the notary has no authority to perform notarial acts, regardless of whether a renewal application is pending. Any notarization performed after expiration is invalid.

- No, the old seal remains valid
- Yes, because the expiration date on the seal will have changed (Correct answer)
- Only if the seal is physically worn

Correct answer: Yes, because the expiration date on the seal will have changed
Since the seal must display the commission expiration date, and the renewed commission will have a new expiration date, the notary must obtain a new seal reflecting the updated information.
