Question 1: Read the following passage and answer the question: 'The Cambrian explosion, a period of rapid evolutionary change, saw the emergence of most major animal phyla. However, the fossil record from this era is incomplete, leaving scientists to debate the exact timeline and causes. Some theories point to environmental factors, such as an increase in oxygen, while others suggest genetic innovations were the primary driver.' Which of the following is the main idea of the passage?
- The Cambrian explosion was solely caused by an increase in atmospheric oxygen.
- The fossil record from the Cambrian period is perfect and without any gaps.
- Scientists fully agree on the causes and timeline of the Cambrian explosion.
- The Cambrian explosion was a significant evolutionary event with causes that are still debated by scientists. (Correct answer)
Correct answer: The Cambrian explosion was a significant evolutionary event with causes that are still debated by scientists.
The passage explicitly states that the causes of the Cambrian explosion are debated, mentioning both environmental and genetic theories. It also notes the incompleteness of the fossil record, making 'D' the most accurate summary of the main idea.

- The author is in favor of a four-day work week. (Correct answer)
- The author is neutral and presents arguments for and against a four-day work week equally.
- The author believes a four-day work week is only suitable for the tech industry.
Correct answer: The author is in favor of a four-day work week.
The author presents only positive outcomes ('boost productivity and well-being') and supportive evidence ('citing studies from several companies'). This one-sided presentation implies the author supports the idea.
Question 6: After reading a complex scientific article, a test-taker is asked to determine the central idea. Which of the following strategies would be most effective?
